South Social & Home also offers catering services and is always up for a challenge. So when Jessica Murnane of One Part Plant asked Dean & Jourdan to host a Kentucky-fried For Reals Meal, they jumped at the chance! The catch: they had to make a delicious meal, focusing on all of their Southern favorites....without using any animal products. No butter, no cream, no bacon...no problem!
It was April in Chicago, so they set the table in a "we're ready for spring, please" style, with clustered ferns, mossy placemats, and air plants. The guests dined on a luncheon of Limoncello-soaked fruit, leek grit-cakes with chow-chow relish, cream of zucchini soup, toasted farro & kale salad, and a raw Derby pie. The citrus-gin champagne punch was intended to welcome the guests as an ice-breaker (no one knew each other!), but a second and third batch was whipped up and the lunch lasted well into late afternoon. Success!
